When We Practice
All classes are held at the Hillsboro Old Stone School. New students are welcome to observe any class and your first class is always free!
Monday: The Wellness & Intro Track
Students are welcome to attend one or both hours.
A low-impact class dedicated to the internal side of our art. We practice Ki Breathing, meditation, and gentle stretching exercises designed to release tension and improve overall well-being. This hour is an excellent bridge between the busyness of the workday and a restful evening.
Perfect for: Anyone seeking stress relief, better posture, or a gentle introduction to health benefits without the martial intensity. No uniform required.
Designed specifically for those new to the dojo, this class introduces the unique movements of Ki Aikido in a safe, structured format. You will learn our basic movements and techniques, including how to fall safely (ukemi), as well as the basic philosophy of non-dissension.
Perfect for: First-time visitors and beginners looking for a dedicated space to ask questions and learn at a comfortable pace.
Wednesday: The Core Curriculum
Students are welcome to attend one or both hours.
This class is the bedrock of our practice. We slow things down to focus on the precise details of Ki Aikido—posture, eye-line, and the spacing-all while practicing the Oneness of Bodymind. You will learn the full suite of individual forms (hitori waza) as well as the fundamental techniques of Ki Aikido.
Who is it for? Everyone. It is the starting point for beginners and the "tune-up" hour for advanced students refining their basics.
What to expect: Moderate pace, detailed instruction, and a focus on stability, clarity, and calmness.
Building on the principles learned in the Foundations hour, this class explores how to maintain Bodymind Oneness while in motion and interacting with one or more partners. We apply our basics to more complex situations and techniques while developing rhythm, control, and power.
Who is it for? Students familiar with the basics and feel ready to train in a more dynamic environment.
What to expect: Higher energy and an emphasis on adapting to changing circumstances.
